Hungry Donkeys and Live Gunfights in Oatman, AZ

Posted on January 2, 2019January 21, 2019 by Vanda

Oatman, AZ
Get Directions
Public Restrooms: Yes, at the very end of Main Street
Parking: Free street parking and some paid lots
Hours: ~9:30am – 5pm depending on the establishment

Oatman is one of my favorite stops on Route 66 mainly because of the wild donkeys (also called burros) that you can pet and feed.  The shops in the area sell donkey food for just a buck.  Although they are wild, the donkeys are quite friendly provided you have something to give them.  Young donkeys have a sign on their heads telling you not to feed them as they are too young to eat certain foods. The western town itself is very friendly with shops selling low priced Route 66 souvenirs and old timey attractions.  It is easy to spend over an hour here enjoying the atmosphere.   Live gunfights happen daily 12 noon and 2:15 on the streets.
